Welcome to the new year!

As we move into our 3rd trimester, we should continue to focus on growing our membership as well as retaining current members. Holding social events for your chapter are very important, and can make a difference in helping current members feel included, valued and happy. Socials allow members to simply interact with each other in a more relaxed, comfortable setting. No expectations, no planning volunteer work, just some fun with friends. If your chapter doesn't regularly have socials (every few months or so), you should consider starting. We all love to volunteer, of course, but we also enjoy just spending time together. In terms of growing our chapter memberships, has your chapter had an M-Event this year? Yet, this past trimester? Planning one soon? Chapters should have a goal of at least one M-Event each Trimester - during emphasis months if possible. If not, anytime is a good time to recruit new members! If you need ideas, the USWT website (uswomenoftoday.org) has many great ideas for M-Events, or create your own. A couple great resources are Facebook and Instagram. There are whole pages dedicated to crafting ideas, group activities, etc. From painting, crafts, bingo, mini cake or cookie decorating, Learn a Skill, etc. So many ideas, and all at your fingertips (actually your phone) if you just go out and take a look. When you find a great family or friend game or craft night, simply convert it to an M-Event. Keep it simple! Is your chapter in qualification to receive the Friendship Builders Award? Qualifications for this award start with Friendship Day in August. If your chapter held a Friendship day event, you just need to have three more social events for your chapter to receive the award. Just another reason to be social within your chapter!
